What is hepatitis?

Hepatitis is liver inflammation. Types of hepatitis are:

  • Viral hepatitis types A-E (B and C are the most common in the US)
  • Alcoholic hepatitis
  • Autoimmune hepatitis

Every type of hepatitis is unique, and some start as another disease. For example, people struggling with alcoholism may first develop a fatty liver. Then, if drinking continues, the disease can evolve into alcoholic hepatitis.

I have jaundice. Could it be hepatitis?

Jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin) is just one symptom of hepatitis. Others include:

  • Tiredness
  • Poor appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Belly pain
  • Pale stools
  • Dark urine
  • Sore joints

The different types of hepatitis vary considerably. Some (acute viral hepatitis) go away in time, but others (chronic hepatitis) are lifelong diseases. If you have these symptoms, it could mean that your liver is in trouble, especially if your doctor already diagnosed you with liver disease.

What can a liver scan reveal about hepatitis?

Liver scans reveal your liver health in detail. HealthScansBCS uses the cutting-edge FibroScan® system to investigate nearly all facets of your liver health. This includes how much fat is stored in your liver and how much scar tissue your liver contains.

FibroScan identifies early changes in your liver that might mean you’re at risk for hepatitis. For example, liver disease often progresses through three stages: fatty liver, liver inflammation, and, finally, scar tissue buildup. Thanks to FibroScan, you can catch fatty liver disease early and take the proper steps to reverse or delay its progression.

If you have hepatitis, your doctor looks at your FibroScan results to check the status of the disease. The scan shows how the liver damage has changed since your last scan and helps determine the right way to treat your hepatitis. FibroScan can also show how your current treatment has affected your liver health.

FibroScan liver scans allow many patients to avoid invasive liver biopsies. The scans are painless and take just a few minutes. These advanced liver scans make it easier to be proactive about your hepatitis and liver health.

HealthScansBCS is dedicated to accessible, budget-friendly scans with no referrals needed so that patients with hepatitis can feel in control of their liver health. If you’re ready to schedule your scan, call the office now or book your appointment with online scheduling.
